Our darling real bride Charissa looked incredible on her wedding day in her Elli-Nicole wedding dress ordered through us. Her dress features hand beaded pearls and beaded lace that creates an intricate ombre effect. We absolutely loved every fitting with her. She shared her loved story with us:

  • How did you meet your husband and how did you get engaged?

We met in med school! In between classes I would go stand outside and stare at the Pretoria skyline for some silence. One day I turned around, and there he was.

Our engagement story is like a movie! He created a treasure hunt in my favorite city: Paris. And to top it off he filmed the whole day with his GoPro so now I can relive it whenever I want!

  • Where did you get married and why did you choose that venue and time of year for your wedding?

We got married exactly one year after getting engaged.. to the day: the 8th of December. We got married at The Pavillion at Belair. It was the perfect choice for us! The structuring of the venue reminded us of the Grand Palais in Paris! The glass panels brought The gorgeous view of the Franschhoek mountains indoors. Also the garden is amazing. We both love nature and that jasmin that creeps in from outside, the tunnels of Whisteria and the chapel covered in ivy just made our hearts sing!

With the timing, it just suited our lives perfectly. We had just graduated and it was the start of our holiday. We knew that that was the hottest time of the year for the wineands.. but the architecture of the building is well designed that there is always a cool breeze passing through.

  • What was the vibe of your wedding?

I would say the vibe was romantic and sophisticated. It was just very vibe-y! We had live music, amazing food and with the sunset as a backdrop , I think it was hard to not have a good time.

  • How did you hear about The Wedding Collective?

I am a Pretoria girl at heart and always saw the sign when going to Duncan yard for a coffee date or lunch through the years. I loved the idea of wearing something unique and proudly South African and when the time came to search for my perfect dress, all the South African designers recommended Marié’s expertise!

  • What made you choose your wedding dress?

I know this sounds crazy, but it really was the very first dress that I tried on! After that, no other dress ever made me feel the same. I’ve always a special love for pearls, so it just felt as if it was meant to be.

  • How was your wedding dress experience from fittings to the final product?

So. Much. Fun! On your first visit, you have a personalized meeting whereby Marié gets to know your personality, and a portfolio is created, filled with all your perfect dress options. Then my favorite part: trying them all on! After that every meeting was literally just a build up of anticipation and excitement.

  • Do you have any advice or tips for new brides-to-be looking for their perfect wedding dress?

Your wedding dress should be a mirror of yourself and your personality, It needs to make you feel like your best self. Every time you think about it, it should make your heart beat faster!

  • Who was your wedding photographer?

Jacques Albertyn, a.k.a He Is Visual.

  • What was your most memorable part of your wedding day?

That’s impossible to answer-there are so many! But I have to say walking down the aisle with my dad was a moment I will never forget. When we got to the top of the stairs, he prayed for me and we both shed a tear of joy. We walked slowly and he made me take it all in, showing me all the details of the beautiful venue.. and finally, seeing all the the love of my life waiting for me!

The whole night was amazing! We had all our favorite people under one roof and it made us so happy.

  • Do you have any advice regarding the overall planning of a wedding?

Choose a few things that are important to you and focus your energy on that. Don’t fuss over the small things! Do not forget what the wedding is actually about.. you and your husband to be!! It was so much fun to involve him in everything. Together we created a day that was special to the both of us!
